Gestalt Therapy

Gestalt therapy is a holistic, experiential approach that focuses on deepening awareness in the present moment.

Rather than analysing or problem-solving from a distance, it invites you into direct contact with your thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and behaviours exactly as they are, right now.

When you begin to notice what’s happening in the moment, with curiosity and compassion, something starts to shift. You begin to understand how your current experience is shaped not only by the present, but also by what has come before or what you anticipate in the future. Gestalt helps bring these patterns into awareness, so they no longer quietly run the show.

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck. You might find yourself repeating patterns, holding rigid beliefs, or feeling disconnected from parts of yourself. This stuckness can feel frustrating, confusing, or painful, and often, you’ve already tried to think your way out of it. Gestalt therapy offers a different path: one that recognises you already have the inner capacity for growth and healing, but that some support is needed to reconnect with it.

In Gestalt, the therapeutic relationship is central.

It’s through this real, human connection that healing begins to unfold. Together, we create a safe and supportive space to explore the parts of yourself that may have been pushed away, hidden, or silenced over time. As these parts are gently welcomed back in, you begin to feel more whole, more alive, and more yourself.

Gestalt therapy views you as an interconnected whole, mind, body, emotions, relationships, and environment. We look at how you relate to your world, your history, and your present experience. This includes somatic awareness, nervous system regulation, emotional exploration, and even your sense of spirituality. Everything is connected, and all of it matters.

At the heart of Gestalt is the belief that lasting change comes through awareness. As you learn to notice how you respond to life moment by moment, you gain clarity about what needs attention, what’s ready to shift, and what feels true for you now.

Creativity and experimentation are also key aspects of the Gestalt approach.

We might explore a theme using imagination, movement, voice, or guided reflection. These experiments aren’t about getting it “right”, they’re about expanding the possibilities, trying something new, and seeing what emerges. Often, this is where surprising insights and transformation begin.

The word Gestalt is a German term that can be translated in many ways: whole, shape, form, or totality. At its core, Gestalt therapy is about helping you move toward a sense of inner balance, a feeling of wholeness where all parts of you are acknowledged and included.

Through this process, you’ll not only grow in self-awareness, but also in self-acceptance. And from that place, new ways of relating, to yourself, to others, and to life, naturally begin to unfold.
